Nowadays, lots of people need to spend a large amount of their time on work responsibilities, resulting in accumulated fatigue over the week. With that, it is not uncommon for people to feel unmotivated to do anything on their days off. Nevertheless, it’s essential to try to find a balance by engaging in relaxing activities to maintain mental wellbeing.
There are various forms of simple activities that can help you to achieve a good work-life balance, such as getting enough sleep, establishing routines without rushing, watching movies, listening to music, reading books, chatting with close friends or loved ones, and engaging in favorite sports.
Regardless, it is not uncommon for people to find it challenging to determine how to use limited personal time. Some individuals may plan to do something, only to find themselves staying in bed until the end of the day. When the workday arrives, they may regret not having done something they enjoy, leading to stress and the risk of burnout.
One of the helpful techniques to aid the decision-making process for leisure activities is creating a schedule with four columns:
- List of activities that you like or used to like (start with around 5 activities).
- Number of hours required for each activity, including travel time if applicable.
- Satisfaction score when doing the activity alone (use a scale, e.g., 8/10, 5/10).
- Satisfaction score when doing the activity with a friend or loved one (use a similar scale).
Following this structured schedule provides a clearer picture of all the activities you enjoy. It includes detailed information on the time required and satisfaction levels, making it easier to decide on activities within the available time. Spending leisure time on things you enjoy is not only meaningful but is also integral to establishing a harmonious and enhanced quality of life.”
